Berkley Anastasia Hough

DSCN0431.JPG

At 2:30 Friday August 28th 2009 the Lord graciously blessed us with the birth of a third child. Berkley Anastasia Hough is healthy and for that we praise our Lord. Berkley is simply a name we love, we know it is a little odd, we don’t care. Anastasia is Greek (Αναστασία) for “resurrection” or “she shall rise up.” Certainly it is the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ which gives us hope for the resurrection to eternal life for all whose faith is in Christ alone. She weighed in at 6 lbs 9 oz and is 18 3/4 inches long. Becks was 7 lbs 3 oz and Sadie Piper was 7 lbs 9 oz.

So far Sadie Piper is not real interested and Beckham calls her Baby Broccoli. More pictures by clicking on link below.

Philippians 3:8-11, “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”

Wisdom in the mud

John 17:16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

We had a Muck Fest with the youth this summer, and the next day in Sunday School Pastor Tony’s latest sermon (at the time) came up and Hat said, “It’s like: I was in the mud, but not of the mud.” She busts out with something unconventional but totally right on somedays and this one has stuck with me! I thought it was a great analogy!!

Festive Avocado Chicken

DSCN0357

It stinks when “new recipe” night is a bust, but worth it when it’s a redo, and tonight was a redo night! After Brian tasted it he tried to bribe me for my portion by telling me he would take me to McDonalds for my dinner; Becks ate over half an avocado and downed the tomatoes (two of his favorite foods! He had to be reminded to eat the chicken also; he ended up cleaning his plate though!) and Sadie Piper took maybe a bite and spit the tomato out. But I will now have to buy our avocados at Costco cause this will be one of the most requested meals around here.

It looks like a lot of work, but I did all the prep during nap time (chopped tomatoes and onion, pounded chicken, diced garlic) and it came together in 30 min. after that.

After I took a picture of my plate Becks wanted me to take one of his too. And you know what that means? Sadie Piper does too!

Oh How We Love Mint.com – Free Online Budget Site

200908201756.jpg

About three weeks ago Laura and I decided to find a way to better keep ourselves accountable for the money we spend. After taking Crown Ministries (If you have not done this, do it, you’ll love it!) class 18 months ago at Redeemer we tried using an excel spread sheet they provided, but found it to be too much work collecting receipts and sitting down to go type in what we bought and how much in the various speadsheets. So we didn’t keep up with that very long. So I did a few internet searches and found mvelopes, quicken online, Mint.com and wesabe. mvelopes looked great, but wanted about $130 a year so we didn’t even try it. The other three are free so I set up a username on quicken, mint and wesabe to take a look at the various user interfaces. What is great about all of them, and the reason I would recommend you try Mint.com if you need some financial help, is the simplicity of using it. You don’t manually put your purchases in, rather you link it to any credit cards you have as well as bank accounts, loans, etc. and Mint gathers all your transactions for you. Then you simply tell it how you want it to budget things.

Water Bottle Snob

DSCF0785

Brian pointed it out, and I have to admit he’s right: I’m a water bottle snob. But just in that I need my Camelback now to drink water. My original pink one broke earlier this week (the one that goes EVERYWHERE with me) and I didn’t drink water for two days cause I wasn’t quite sure how to drink water without it. Sounds dumb, but I like being able to take it everywhere, fill it up way less often than I would a cup and I like the straw feature. I was hesitant to have to spend the money on a new one until I realized I’d used it everyday for over a year now: not bad for $12! Brian picked me up a new one today (and the price has gone up to $15 by they way, but still not a deterrent!) and even though they didn’t have a pink one, this one is still girly, so I like it. We’ve already bonded and it will make a wonderful replacement!

Peanut Butter Fudge

200908082101.jpg

I’m really glad I have so many things to bake for, cause I have a ton of recipes collected up that I want to make! This was the latest, and about halfway through baking, I realized that summer really isn’t “fudge season.” They made the cut to make again, but not until the Holidays. They are like a rich Reese PB cup, yum!

Summer in Texas

Becks and Sadie Piper spend about 10 days in Texas with my parents while we were at RiverRanch with youth. They stayed super busy and wore their Mimi and Ompah out!

Brian was jealous they got to go to an Astros’ game! It might help him to know they didn’t make it past the 4th inning. They were home in time to watch the end!

And since grandparents don’t have to say “no,” they loaded up on snacks!
