Mornings with Sadie Piper

Early mornings are Brian and Sadie Piper time. They drink iced coffee together and chat. About whatever. SP can pretty much make a conversation from that string hanging off her shirt…or anything!! (Btw, SP’s iced coffee is 90% milk and chocolate syrup!)

This is a tradition that goes all the way back to a 2 year old Sadie Piper and their “swoopies” And looking at this, we have the unavoidable “STOP GROWING UP SO FAST!!” feelings. Look how cute she was!!!

It’s ironic that two of the most heard phrases in our house from Berkley are, “Pea help me” and “I do it!” And then a very excited “I did it!” (sometimes! Other times she just keeps repeating “Pea help me” over and over and over and over and over)

I walked by the other day and saw this. That’s the A/C vent. She was like that for at least 7 or 8 min.

If First Borns are responsible perfectionists who don’t like surprises, but like to please people, we have one. If Middle Children are hard to pin down and guaranteed to be the opposite of the First Born, we have one of those too. And the Youngest. The class clown and lover of the limelight. Not sure on that one yet, but she sure is funny!!

Not the best shots, but this is how she pushes the stroller around all day.

Here’s video of her praying before lunch. You can hear her saying “Buh Buh” (Beckham) and “BeeBee” (Berkley) and “See-ee” (Sadie) as she thanks God for everyone’s food.

And she’s gotten into Miley’s Party in the USA like SP did when she was 2, but with much less…enthusiasm? It’s more of a chore to put her hands up, but she insists on doing it.

 Yay! Actually showing emotion!

Enough of that, I have a job to do, guys.

And here’s her and Brian being goofy and sweet together!

My Week at Camp RiverRanch

RiverRanch Hough 2011

Laura and I spent the past week at RiverRanch. We put on this high school camp every summer and it gets more fun every year. So here are the pictures that include us. Laura took most of the photos this week so she’s not in many. If you want to see all the pictures from the week go to Other wise follow link below for the rest of ours.

They told us so…

When we had Beckham, we didn’t reveal our name choice until he was born. This wasn’t because we assumed anyone cared and was on the edge of their seats waiting, but because we knew that people would tell us that was a bad name because…fill in the blank with anything from “people will call him Beck-y” to “that’s too weird.” We knew people would say that after he was born, but not to our faces, and we were ok with that! 🙂

With Sadie Piper, we were more lax about it. We tested a few names on the youth. When we would mention Sadie, we got, “That’s a horse name” or, “I have a friend who’s dog is named Sadie.” We were resilient though and loved it enough to stick with it. BUT…they were right. It is a horse name.

Here’s a horse stall at Deanna Rose:

And then I got this email from the KC zoo…apparently Sadie is a good cheetah name too!

Another reason we like to call her Sadie Piper! 🙂 No one names their giraffe Sadie Piper!

For the record, we kept Berkley’s name under wraps after that! 🙂

The Reymonds gave us tickets to see the US soccer team play in the brand-stinkin’ new KC soccer stadium. It’s by far the best soccer stadium we’ve been to. And we should know…we named our son Beckham.

We decided to just take Beckham, so he could get some one-on-two time…and since he’s the only Hough kid who had even the slightest chance of sitting through a 90 minute game!

To say we had fun would be an understatement! National level soccer (Brian, is that what you would call national teams, as opposed to city teams?) is amazing!

Yes, we did fight over him. It was such a rare thing to have one child–no one fighting for our attention, so we fought for his!

Home Depot had a sign-making station! Thanks Mrs. H for making it possible for him to make his own sign without help!

Then we told him to carry it and hold it up and shout “U S A!!”DSCN0068

He took this sign holding stuff very literally. DSCN0071

Taking a sign break to pose

Break-time over

And then Brian did what all great dads do: He took Beckham to the concession stand. This was a fancy one! (my dad ALWAYS spoiled us at sporting games!)

He chose ice cream with marshmallows. All those toppings. Just marshmallows. DSCN0080

Half time! We ran into  Kronberg, goalkeeper for Sporting KC

And Becks picked a sno cone for this half
Landon Donovan was there. I have a crush on him.

Back to the sign carrying!

DSCN0111SUCH a fun night! Reymonds, THANK YOU!

Another Wonderful 4th at the Thomas Farm

Here’ the deal: There’s NOTHING NOT fun at the Thomas Farm! Thanks Katie for taking awesome pictures!

We are farmers. Joel let us go INTO the corn!!! It was cool in there. Just like the movies, but  REAL! DSC_0170

DSC_0175 We are farmers: We ride 4 wheelers with trailers.

We are farmers: We look at cows. And are amazed.

We are farmers: Brian bottles his own “liquid smoke.” (Farmers do that, right?)

Bean was a rock star with the kids! DSC_0796

This is Rowdy. He’s a super sweet dog who loves kids:DSC_0949

The Thomas’ would have you think otherwise. They claim he’s not this social.DSC_0952

Check out this proof though. Then tell the Thomas’ to stop spreading bad rumors about poor, sweet Rowdy! 🙂

This one makes me laugh! Such a cute girl!

That’s a cookie she’s rubbing in his face with the hand not covering his eyes!DSC_1077

Jennifer and Jodi!

Katie now understands my struggle with photographing Berkley:DSC_1006

Since we are farmers now, we put the boy to work! DSC_0879

What? Who let him take a break??DSC_0803Fireworks in the evening are the best ever!

Berkley wasn’t a huge fan of the fireworks, but we were big fans of cuddling with her!

Thanks guys for such a farm-tastic day!  (I’ve read too many kids’ books lately I think!)

Random pictures that can only be labeled “Random pictures”

Beckham saw this picture on the water bottle container and said, “I think this mom and dad left their kids at home with a baby sitter. They were going on a date to a river. And drinking water.  Or maybe they don’t have kids yet.” Random.

She makes the best faces!

The hail we had in relation to a talent. IMAG0012

He told me his rabbit was an astronaut.

When my mom was in town we put Becks to bed in our room to fall asleep and then moved him into SP’s room. He sure takes up a lot of the bed for a little dude.

I’m seriously curious who is buying Christmas stuff  in July. Cause there’s obviously enough people doing this to warrant Hobby Lobby selling it…6 months early.
