Summer nights

I think seeing her outfit was what prompted me to get my camera out. Cause good golly she’s weird!

Summer 2017

Brian and Beckham doing the old baseball cards on the spokes trick! Now his bicycle sounds like a motorcycle!

Summer 2017

It’s hard to be 7 and have a fan stuck in your hair cause you held it too close…

Summer 2017

So now she has some long bangs!

Summer 2017

They have torn up our street this summer on their bikes

 Summer 2017

1980 called Beckham…and told him he was born in the wrong decade! He’s got the 80s look down pat!

I love this smile!

Summer 2017

Berkley has this great quality that she doesn’t care what’s socially acceptable. I love that about her! 🙂

I dig it: Books

Eve in Exile

This is the best book on femininity that I’ve ever read. It’s smart, biblical and captivating. A powerful and empowering explanation of women as God created us. The author takes you on a history tour of feminism and how and why it has changed us. Then she gives a roadmap to get back to God’s good design lived out. I really, really dug this one.

Hands Free Mama

I cried every chapter of this one. I’m not a huge fan of blogger turned author, but this wasn’t as theological as practical so I was good with it! I read Stafford’s article on Huffington Post a few years ago and really loved it. It was such a great reminder to live in the moment. The days are long but the years are so short!

Raising Grateful kids in an Entitled World

This author hits the nail on the head. She helped us grasp the unintentional ways we are equipping our kids to be brats! 🙂 We learned a lot from this book about how we can instill character into our kids, how to help them find joy in serving others, appreciate what they have and even understand how technology plays a part in all of that.

Action Bible

Beckham loves comic books graphic novels and this bible has been great for him to read through! It includes a lot of stories and details the typical kids story bibles don’t. He’s been captivated by the drawings and the stories. It’s really made the bible come to life for him. Really great purchase!

Brian read these next ones:

Reset

Reset by David Murray feels like sitting down with a wise pastor with many years of experience telling the 30 to 50 year old men how to live the Christian life over the long haul. Working from scripture he intertwines it with scientific research and real world experience to give wisdom on how to approach sleep, exercise, stress relief, changing identity (as in, Who am I?), stuff, diet/food, and how we relate to God, to our family, elders, etc. It’s written specifically for men, not just pastors and I’d recommend it to any men who feel the stresses of life, but it was great to see some applications specific to pastors. Enjoyed this whole book, but loved the chapter on sleep.

The Things of Earth

The Things of Earth by Joe Rigney starts out so slow and so academic I nearly put it down, but once you get past the first few chapters it turns out to be a wonderful book that helps bring sense to how you can enjoy both Sunday morning worshiping God at church and also enjoy a wonderful meal with wine on Tuesday and watching a blockbuster movie with your family on Friday. If you’ve ever found yourself thinking reading your bible honors the Lord, but reading a John Grisham novel does not. If you’ve ever felt guilty for enjoying God’s creation this book will be refreshing to you.
