Mini Maker’s Faire

One of Aggieville’s newer traditions is a mini-maker’s faire. It’s basically a gathering of people who have really cool hobbies or talents. We’ve gone every year, but this year’s was by far the best one yet!

These people make bridges with only rope and wood.

I can’t remember the exact weight they said it would hold, but it was more than we weighed, so Brian and I got a turn too!

Purple Power Play

Purple Power Play is Manhattan’s annual Fall Kick-off. It’s a two day pep rally for K-State football kinda! There are booth and activities and shows and it’s all free! It’s a huge party in the park!

This year they had a really great bounce house thing- it was more of a obstacle from “Wipe Out.” You had to Superman jump to get across!

The local beauty school won this year for best booth (nothing official, just our opinion…but we did see them all and we did vote…). They had students and chairs and they gave you “spirit hair”!

We all took a turn!

SP’s was the best. But really, with her hair, you can’t go wrong!

Even the boys got in on the fun! (Watch out girls, they are catches!!)

The fire department brings a hose out and kids get to spray a wooden house that has “flames” in it. It’s really creative and fun! Berkley has a huge sticker on her face and is smacking her gum and putting out fires. All in a day’s work.

Brian with his crew! These people make me so happy. You can’t be Kansas without having a group of people who dress up like this to attend events. You just can’t be.

Wizard of Is here.

I got asked a few times if they were all mine! 🙂

These next two pictures are like one of those “what is different?” puzzles.

To top it all off, on Thursday Bates Dance puts on a rock star show!!

And then, in true Hough kid fashion, the girls played “Purple Power Play” the next two days. Their booth was for DayCare. Note the banner they made, and the target behind SP is a game for the kids who come by.

And this is one of those skinny wheels that you spin and you win a prize (those were Berkley’s fav booths) and the bowl has those plastic wrist bands (a la Livestrong) that you can take too!

Homecoming Parade

We love us a good parade, and the K-State Homecoming parade is the best one ever! Kids get to trick or treat at the stores in Aggieville beforehand. This year they were a cat, a mouse and a Tasmanian devil (the real animal, not the cartoon)

K-State Homecoming Parade 2015

Brian’s idea obviously:

It’s funny that cat is the generic college girl costume…she’s growing toooooo fast!!

K-State Homecoming Parade 2015

Why don’t they also sell mouse ears in the Dollar Spot at Target? I had to make these suckers.

Oct 2015

There’s no argument this is the best costume out there. I’m so stinking impressed!! He’s is a porta-potty!!

Then it’s parade time!

The sororities and frats all have a theme each year. This year they all had a century. Annie’s sorority was the future. I’m biased, but even if I wasn’t, she was the best dressed of the group!

Purple Power Play

Purple Power Play is basically Manhattan’s “Welcome back to Fall” celebration! It’s on of our favorite events of the year! It’s two evenings and full of stuff to do and see!

Including snakes. “Why’d it have to be snakes…”

I love Boo’s face in this! To be fair, when I asked if we could take pics with them, she was the first of the three kids to say she wanted to!

Once she didn’t die, the others got more brave. WAY more brave.

At one point it moved unexpectedly and I screamed and ran. All three of them got their lack of fear from Brian.

Manhattan Pres had a booth and Texas Jenga again!

Taste of the Ville ’15

Taste of the Ville 2015

Last year Harriet Reymond gave us tickets to The Taste of the Ville and we had such a great time that we shared in the church email when tickets went on sale this year in the hope that others would join us for the adventure this year.

Simply put most of the restaurants in Aggieville give out a single serving of some food or drink. Participants then travel around with a punch card to each stop over a two hour period. This year we had an even better time than last year with such a fun group of people.

We’ll do it again in 2016, so when you see tickets are for sale buy them and prepare for a fast paced Aggieville food adventure.

Taste of the Ville 2015

At Tubby’s the men got on the bar and while I’d like to blame the alcohol not a single drink was had.

Taste of the Ville 2015

One of things that made this year fun was a goal to complete the whole list and we did with about 4 minutes to spare. At the end we shared what we were most surprised by and what was the best item.

The overwhelming victor of the best item was:

  • Varsity Donuts who had a hot cinnamon sugar donut.

Biggest surprises (in a good way) were:

  • Bluemont Hotel who served Pot Stickers and Hummus with Pita Bread
  • Keltic Star Public House who served Bread Pudding
  • Eighteen 63 who served fried pickles.

Most of the restaurants did a great job, the only disappointments were Fuzzy’s Tacos who gave about a tablespoon of rice or beans and Taco Lucha because they didn’t participate at all.

Here is a full list of was served:

Bluemont Hotel Lounge – Pot Stickers and Hummus with Pita Bread

Bluestem Bistro – Banana Bread French Toast & Green Tea

Buffalo Wild Wings – Boneless Chicken wings

Cold Stone – Ice Cream something rather.

Dancing Ganesha – 65 Spice Chicken (very good, plan to eat there soon)

Eighteen 63 – Fried Pickles

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop – Rice or beans

Goodcents Deli – Various Sandwiches

Jeff’s Pizza Shop – Really good full slices of pizza

Keltic Star Public House – Bread Pudding with rum sauce

Kite’s Bar & Grille – Fried Cheese and Chips and Espinaca Dip

Pizza Hut – BBQ Pizza, which was good, but small piece.

Radina’s Coffee House – Various Smoothies.

Rock-A-Belly Deli – Hummus and pita bread

Rusty’s Bar – Corn Salsa and chips

Starbucks – Iced Coffee with flavor options

Tanner’s Bar & Grill – Chicken Lips (amazing good chicken fingers)

Tasty China House – General Tso Chicken, Tofu

The Pita Pit – Slice of some great tasting pita wrap

Tubby’s Sports Bar – BBQ & Buffalo chicken wings

Varsity Donuts – Hot and fresh cinnamon sugar donut.

Surprisingly fun: Kansas Sampler Festival

Our great neighbors gave us passes to the Kansas Sampler in Wamego, which is a “sampling” of all the cities and things the state of Kansas has to offer. Lots of booths, lots of samples, and really, our kind of thing!

Before we even got inside the gates, we ran into these cool people! I mean really, does it get better than this?!!?

Kansas Sampler 2015

Then there was this!! I’ve NEVER seen a baby kangaroo in a mommy’s pouch before!

Kansas Sampler 2015

They had a porcupine too!

Kansas Sampler 2015
And a baby alpaca!

Boo liked the “Boo-sized” goats best

(also, she likes to carry a purse places. She’s gonna make a great mom, always prepared!)Kansas Sampler 2015

This is a model of the hotel we saw just a few weeks ago in Waterville

Kansas Sampler 2015

And found this fun thing on rails! We had wanted to ride it when we were in Waterville, but it was locked. Woohoo!

Kansas Sampler 2015

No idea what this is. But if you can get on something for a picture, we do!

Kansas Sampler 2015

Also, we like to lay on railroad tracks.

Kansas Sampler 2015

Hiland Farms (a local dairy) had these cool milk mustache stickers!

Kansas Sampler 2015

So far this festival has had everything we love most: people dressed up, baby animals, things we can get on/ride, and wood cut outs!

Kansas Sampler 2015

Oh, and props for photos. You can never go wrong with props for photos!

Kansas Sampler 2015

The best give away? Cool sunglasses from the City of Manhattan with the “little apple” on it.

Berkley hugged this one:

And she wanted to take this one homeKansas Sampler 2015

Then someone spotted a “real teeter totter.” I was pumped about this, I haven’t seen one of those in…well, since I was small enough to play on them. Apparently our kids have no idea what a “real teeter totter” is. Cause this ain’t one guys.

Kansas Sampler 2015

Thanks Ron and Stacey for the tickets!! We had a great time!!
