Sailing away

Brian found this super fun sailing camp and it was a highlight of our summer for sure!

Sailing Summer 2017

Sailing 2017

It’s on Tuttle Creek Lake, the cost is $5 (PER FAMILY!) and now our kids are all expert sailors!

Sailing Summer 2017

Summer 2017 - 21

They don’t just hop in boats, they put them to work! They have to assemble them each time! The kids all know all the parts of a sailboat and how to put it together.

And how to tie it off at the dock.

Sailing Summer 2017

Day one they threw them in the water, capsized them and taught them how to right the boat. Brilliant if you ask me, no one was scared at all of tipping the rest of the week!

 Summer 2017 - 10

Actually, Berkley should have been! Her few pounds definitely didn’t get that boat back up again! She just doesn’t have the weight!

Summer 2017 - 4

Day two they towed their boat behind a safety boat so they could learn how to steer.
Summer 2017 - 28

Then the rest of the week is sailing on their own!

She may have been stuck with no wind, but it made for a very peaceful picture! 🙂

Brian took a few rides in the safety boat. Until they kicked him off! 🙂

On the last day, parents got to sail too! And after that we were even more impressed with our little sailors…it takes skill and knowledge…neither of which I had. But the instructors talked me though it and I made it

Summer 2017 - 76

Since you been gone…

When I (Laura) leave town, Brian does really fun stuff with the kids. And also Berkley doesn’t get out of her pajamas. Also no one showers.

But let’s focus on the “does really fun stuff” part:

Free Comics day! It’s an actual annual holiday! Beckham is a “graphic novel” fan, so it’s like his birthday in terms of excitement. Overheard in our house this week “I’ve read about a quarter of the chapter books in the library, Berkley has read about a quarter of the kid books, and Beckham has read ALL of the comic books.” Very accurate, SP!

Free Comic Book Day included Harley Quinn this year. Very friendly villain.

Then they went and picked strawberries at A&H Farm.

And also took selfies with goats.

Biggest slide in town!

They found puppies!!

Then a stop at Taco Bell for taco burritos. Cause I would have nixed that (cause I’m not fun).

Made strawberries with the fresh picked ones!

I was VERY impressed with this one, cause it felt like they would have needed me for this one!

(I felt better when I heard the ingredients: strawberries, a frozen pie shell, a tub of glaze and a tub of cool whip)

And still in the footies…

Also, why is Mr Nubbers in the house??? I’ve kicked him out to be a full time farm cat.

Thanks guys for letting me visit friends, but also for not functioning at full capacity and making me feel un-needed! 🙂

St Patty’s Day Shenanigans

If we learn that green food coloring is harmful, the Hough house is in trouble. We had A LOT during St Patty’s week. “Green everything!” was the motto! So if it wasn’t green naturally, I dyed it. Problem solved.

Real St Paddy's Day Cupcakes for Small Group tonight.

First stop on real St Patrick’s day: Varsity for green donuts. Except Berkley the party pooper who doesn’t like raised donuts or icing.

Next stop: Library, where they had a fun craft!

They also had a Beauty and the Beast craft time. This pic weirds me out.

And Beckham climbed the wall. Random. Yet impressive.

Then some other random stops for photo ops.

We wish they would cut that tree down! It’s such a cool painting and it’s half covered. Sad story.

Welded welder welding a welded mailbox…

Then rode bikes to the parade!

Berkley packed a BOOK to read. Nerd.

We saw lots of friends in the parade! That’s always our favorite part!!

T-Rex on a bike gets me every time!

Yet so does anything in a parade with a toilet in it…

Beckham climbed more walls…

I can’t take these guys anywhere…

Sadie Piper’s Skip Day

Day started off with Varsity donuts

Sadie Piper Skip Day

and Apples to Apples!

Sadie Piper Skip Day

Then we hit up the mini golf course.

March 2017

None of us has ever been to the one in town before, so that was a fun adventure!

March 2017

March 2017

Brian kept score so the loser could “buy lunch” (that would be me!)

March 2017

That was a hole in one!

  March 2017

We also threw in a little light rock climbing!

March 2017

The other option SP had was FootGolf. Which is exactly what is sounds like- golf with a soccer ball. They have one hole you can try it out on so we did. (Fun, but more for adults and soccer players). So we skipped that…

Sadie Piper Skip Day

…in favor of the batting cages!

Sadie Piper Skip Day

She has THE BEST “brace for impact” face!

Sadie Piper Skip Day

Brian can’t go to the cages without getting in on the fun!

Sadie Piper Skip Day

Lunch at Chick-fil-a. This girl knows what she likes and rarely branches out!

(I obviously thought we were making funny faces, but SP gave her cute smile…oops)  Sadie Piper Skip Day

Then straight to the bowling alley! She loved it!

Sadie Piper Skip Day

Bowling rolled right into a milkshake from Baskin Robbins!

Sadie Piper Skip Day

Then to pick up the Bs from school, and poor girl was again the middle child! 🙂

Saturday Adventure

On warm days we adventure outside. On cold days we huddle inside and wonder what we should do today.

But this day it was warm, so we headed out!

First stop, the Manhattan signmanhattan_hill

But instead of driving up to it we heard there was a hiding trail.

Rocky Ford Fishing Area

Not gonna lie, it was a tad steeper than we anticipated. Our kids were old enough, but don’t take littles on this one.

Rocky ford fishing

Then we went fishing. Yes, it was only like 70 degrees and yes it was March, but you can’t let that stop you.

Rocky Ford Fishing Area

And yes, we didn’t catch a single thing.

Fishing

Lucky for us, that wasn’t really the point!

 Fishing

Brian and I have a deal: I don’t help with fishing. (it’s more of an unspoken “rule” in that really by the very fact that I can’t carry the container of worms cause it gives me the eebies thinking about live worms crawling in there…eek…that he just does it all for the kids and I just watch.)

It’s a good deal.

If you are me.

Which I am.

  Rocky ford fishing

They are sweet to each other when they aren’t fighting with each other…

What is Berkley doing?? Pretending she caught a big fish maybe?

This is as good as we are going to get:

Saturday adventure

It was beautiful outside last weekend, and I asked Brian if we could take a bike ride. He asked where, and I told him the idea was my responsibility, the execution was his.

So we all followed Brian and ended up at, shocker, Call Hall for ice cream!

Feb 2017

No one complained…

Then to Memorial Stadium to watch the women’s lacrosse game.

Lacrosse is a hard spectator sport by the way.

So we ended up at City Park

Feb 2017

And kids ended up buried

Boozer lost an ear on the ride. I will always maintain that the youngest is the best spot to be in birth order, but it does come with its down sides. One being you rarely get anything new. Which I actually think is amazing cause few things makes me happier than hand me downs (Berkley still calls them “handy downs” and we don’t correct her), even for myself, but I digress. So her helmet had seen better days.

Feb 2017

But since Brian is also a youngest he has a complex about “handy downs” (he often laments about not knowing “Mouse Trap” had more than 3 pieces to it and not one marble) and had me order her a new helmet, brand spankin’ new even!

Mini Maker’s Faire

One of Aggieville’s newer traditions is a mini-maker’s faire. It’s basically a gathering of people who have really cool hobbies or talents. We’ve gone every year, but this year’s was by far the best one yet!

Mini Maker faire

These people make bridges with only rope and wood.

I can’t remember the exact weight they said it would hold, but it was more than we weighed, so Brian and I got a turn too!

We must not have gotten a picture (shocking, I know!) but Beckham made a marshmallow shooter gun from PVC pipe!

Varsity donuts did Coke fountains…and their famous candy shooter!

As of lately…

Brian kept saying “Beckham!!” one day like he was about to have a serious talk with Becks. Poor Beckham would say “Yes….” and Brian would tell him “Oh, I’m just reading the back of your shirt.” This went on all day. It was their “thing.” Until one time Brian said “Beckham you moron!”…this threw Becks off as Brian tried to explain, he was indeed still just reading his shirt.

(Also, this story sounds like we are super mean to our kids and their childhood is a rough one. I promise they know our love language is messing with them!!)

Me and my little one were twinkies!

Nothing says small town like a town tree lighting! This is the third year they have done this event (we went every year but last year…it was like 15 degrees that year and we are from Texas, so we stayed home) and it’s grown every year!

This year they had these 3-D like glasses that when you wore them, make EVERY light bulb look either like a snowman or a Santa head, depending on which one you were wearing. I know the technology in my cell phone, microwave, computer, etc is amazing, but this was the coolest thing ever! How did they DO THAT???

Brian bought this solely because it had a red head on it. I bet her’s is real…

These two are buds. Beckham is really blossoming into the coolest big brother there is.

More crafts: today’s was a “Yoshi face”

These two call themselves the Littlests

Oct 2016

This was quite the dilemma for me at the store. (So I bought both)

Oct 2016

Brian’s desk working on a sermon. I felt like I wanted to make fun of him, but it’s not as cool when you are mocking someone for what? Too many bibles…? Yeah, no one mocks for that.

God has grown His church. He’s grown our faith in Him. Last weekend we met as a church to go from being a church plant to a “particular” church…it just means we take the “plant” part off and are a “normal” church now with local elders! To God be all the glory!

Here’s Brian being installed as pastor.

P1060421

And Tim and Travis installed as local elders. I’m so thankful for these Godly men to walk alongside Brian in leading our church body. They are some of the most wise and humble men I’ve ever met. We are blessed to be under their care.

   P1060410

This is right after Brian licked my face. Yes. Licked. My. Face.

   IMG_0532

I recovered.

IMG_0533

Brian wears Astro’s socks on Sundays. Tony came and preached and I guess dug in the trash to find his own baseball team socks? 🙂

 IMG_0539

Also, the colors of this cake were eerily similar to the Astros! (we just asked them to match the logo colors, and they were a little brighter, but Brian didn’t mind obviously!) _MG_0395

We couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who has supported this plant for so many years in so many ways. I won’t get sappy, but it’s true. God-willing, this is just the beginning!

October in Manhattan

October may be my favorite month in Manhattan. Not only is the weather perfect, the leaves are changing colors (but haven’t fallen enough for us to be feeling bad about having not raked and bagged them yet) and there’s just so many fun things to do!!

This year Beckham is dressing as Cole Witt, a NASCAR driver. He likes him cause he’s an underdog.

Witt

Sadie Piper is Danica Patrick. She likes her cause she’s a girl. And she’s pretty.

@danicapatrick my daughter Sadie Piper is you for Halloween this year. #danicapatrick

KSU Greeks put on a Kids Carnival annually, it’s a lot of fun!!

Danica and Witt

Just in case you have an irrational fear of mascots, let this fuel your fire: all I asked to do was take a picture with him. Then there was this:

Get a photo with Willie they said, it's not like he'll eat you they said...

Kidding Willie, we love you!

There’s no shortage of pumpkin patches around here! Or corn to roll around in. This is Kansas…MPC Pumpkin Patch 2016

We told them all to look straight ahead and not smile. When they asked why, instead of explaining Children of the Corn to them, we just said, “cause it’s funny for the adults.”MPC Pumpkin Patch 2016

Then there’s the Homecoming parade. Manhattan has a parade for most everything (and we will go to them!), but this one is our fav! It feels so small town!

Painted hay bales are one of our favorite things!
