Remember that time…

Remember that time there was a bird in the church and Craig and Brian teamed up to save the day?

Craig scared it up and Brian’s job was to “shoo” it out the door that Craig would hold open.

 Dec 2016

Instead, Brian just grabbed it and walked it to the door…

Dec 2016

That’s weird.

God has grown His church. He’s grown our faith in Him. Last weekend we met as a church to go from being a church plant to a “particular” church…it just means we take the “plant” part off and are a “normal” church now with local elders! To God be all the glory!

Here’s Brian being installed as pastor.

P1060421

And Tim and Travis installed as local elders. I’m so thankful for these Godly men to walk alongside Brian in leading our church body. They are some of the most wise and humble men I’ve ever met. We are blessed to be under their care.

   P1060410

This is right after Brian licked my face. Yes. Licked. My. Face.

I recovered.

Brian wears Astro’s socks on Sundays. Tony came and preached and I guess dug in the trash to find his own baseball team socks? 🙂

 IMG_0539

Also, the colors of this cake were eerily similar to the Astros! (we just asked them to match the logo colors, and they were a little brighter, but Brian didn’t mind obviously!) _MG_0395

We couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who has supported this plant for so many years in so many ways. I won’t get sappy, but it’s true. God-willing, this is just the beginning!

I can’t take him anywhere.

I just needed a frame. And Brian and I were right by Hobby Lobby so I asked if we could run in real quick.

I had to go to the back of the store where they have the odd sizes. Which means we walked through the whole store. Which means Brian found a ton of letters. And when he finds letters on anything he arranges them to say MPC.

(This was what he made at Bed Bath and Beyond one day)

Oh wait, as we walked away he found the rooster section. So he added a rooster:

Taste of the Ville ’15

Taste of the Ville 2015

Last year Harriet Reymond gave us tickets to The Taste of the Ville and we had such a great time that we shared in the church email when tickets went on sale this year in the hope that others would join us for the adventure this year.

Simply put most of the restaurants in Aggieville give out a single serving of some food or drink. Participants then travel around with a punch card to each stop over a two hour period. This year we had an even better time than last year with such a fun group of people.

We’ll do it again in 2016, so when you see tickets are for sale buy them and prepare for a fast paced Aggieville food adventure.

At Tubby’s the men got on the bar and while I’d like to blame the alcohol not a single drink was had.

Taste of the Ville 2015

One of things that made this year fun was a goal to complete the whole list and we did with about 4 minutes to spare. At the end we shared what we were most surprised by and what was the best item.

The overwhelming victor of the best item was:

  • Varsity Donuts who had a hot cinnamon sugar donut.

Biggest surprises (in a good way) were:

  • Bluemont Hotel who served Pot Stickers and Hummus with Pita Bread
  • Keltic Star Public House who served Bread Pudding
  • Eighteen 63 who served fried pickles.

Most of the restaurants did a great job, the only disappointments were Fuzzy’s Tacos who gave about a tablespoon of rice or beans and Taco Lucha because they didn’t participate at all.

Here is a full list of was served:

Bluemont Hotel Lounge – Pot Stickers and Hummus with Pita Bread

Bluestem Bistro – Banana Bread French Toast & Green Tea

Buffalo Wild Wings – Boneless Chicken wings

Cold Stone – Ice Cream something rather.

Dancing Ganesha – 65 Spice Chicken (very good, plan to eat there soon)

Eighteen 63 – Fried Pickles

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop – Rice or beans

Goodcents Deli – Various Sandwiches

Jeff’s Pizza Shop – Really good full slices of pizza

Keltic Star Public House – Bread Pudding with rum sauce

Kite’s Bar & Grille – Fried Cheese and Chips and Espinaca Dip

Pizza Hut – BBQ Pizza, which was good, but small piece.

Radina’s Coffee House – Various Smoothies.

Rock-A-Belly Deli – Hummus and pita bread

Rusty’s Bar – Corn Salsa and chips

Starbucks – Iced Coffee with flavor options

Tanner’s Bar & Grill – Chicken Lips (amazing good chicken fingers)

Tasty China House – General Tso Chicken, Tofu

The Pita Pit – Slice of some great tasting pita wrap

Tubby’s Sports Bar – BBQ & Buffalo chicken wings

Varsity Donuts – Hot and fresh cinnamon sugar donut.

Pumpkin Patch 2014

We went with a group of friends from Church to Britt’s Pumpkin Patch on Saturday. It was fun to be together and to enjoy the Fall doing such a classic fall activity. Below is the Hay Ride. It winds through a farm growing fresh peppers, egg plant, okra, milo and pumpkins.

This bike was steered by whoever pedaled fasted. A little tough to get going on the grass, but the idea was very interesting. Should be a pre-marriage counseling activity.

Berkley is a strange girl. She won’t go near a daddy longlegs, but she chased this escaped chicken down and returned it to chicken prison.

The slide was fantastic. Bigger than it looks in photos and really fun despite ending in a puddle of mud.

The Color Run Manhattan

Our friend Danielle Catudal suggested the Color Run so a bunch of us from Church decided to do it. It’s a 5k, but it’s not a normal 5k. It’s more like a jogging party, there are no times, lots of costumes and every 3/4 or so mile they throw a new color of powdered paint at you.  Below is Kennedy and I getting ready.

Color Run Manhattan 2014

This is the mascot and the largest Conga line in some qualified category.

Color Run Manhattan 2014

Hannah had her picture take with the Unicorn because she’s a natural redhead with blue eyes which is considered as rare as a magical unicorn.

This is a before photo of some of the group.

This is us headed towards the first color gate. Looks like some sort of chemical warfare accident in the distance, we weren’t sure what to expect. (Will this comment get me forever flagged by CIA?) It’s people with bottles of powder spraying us as we go by. The powder is made from cornstarch and taste just like it.

Color Run Manhattan 2014

The race starts in waves so we had to wait a bit.

Color Run Manhattan 2014

Kennedy is a legit runner. I am not. I was falling behind about 30 miles into this and he was nice enough to jog with me at an extremely slow pace. I’m glad he did cause I would have stopped and walked if he hadn’t. He also kept up with my pace by doing the grandma in the mall speed walk.

Color Run Manhattan 2014

Here Danielle is trying explain why this color run thing is a big conspiracy for Tide to sell more detergent. (not really, no idea what she’s saying, but I am looking at her as though it is a conspiracy theory of some sort).

I get the feeling Berkley is grumpy about something.

This is kinda gross, it’s the hair on my arm after running through yellow, blue, pink and purple color gates. Color Run Manhattan 2014

Here is an after group photo. I may have rolled through a color gate or two to pick up a little extra paint.

Purple Power Play 2014

Purple Power Play is Manhattan’s Fall Kick Off basically. A “welcome back” to students, kick off for K-State sports and just a fun time for townies.

ManhattanPres had a booth. We may have set up early…

Berkley has this thing against fireworks. As in, she despises them. Fourth of July is her bane. Unfortunately for her, the two day event went out a bang. Aka, a fireworks show!

A YEAR LATER

SSMPCRUF2

Sometimes I’m afraid if I look back I’ll stumble going forward. So I try not to look back and in those times I miss opportunities to be thankful to God.

That’s where I stand right now. Manhattan Pres is moving forward, establishing worship, taking members, looking to find permanent worship place, figuring out small groups, Christian Education, better discipleship and looking to find ways to care for the community we dwell in. So my tendency is to look at that list and focus there. But it’s been a year since The Manhattan Project became public knowledge. Since then, God has answered prayers in ways greater than we ever dreamed.

Early on Laura and I were talking with Andria and she mentioned she wanted to come to Manhattan to be a part of this. With this we felt a weight of responsibility. She said she wanted to get on board and our response was “we are not sure this boat will float.” Looking at this “boat” then we saw cracks and holes and very few sailors, and none with any experience in the open seas.

She responded something along the lines of, “Then I will go down with the boat.”

What do you say to that?

I think we sat silent, I think we concluded she should be living up in a tree. What we should have said was “get on board and mend that crack, let’s set sail.” After that, others got on board too, and in Manhattan yet others climbed on board, and each new sailor God has brought aboard has come with new abilities, experience and skills. Now this ricky old boat is starting to look downright sea worthy.

See, that’s the moment I fear. Looking back and seeing a boat God has built that isn’t in shambles, that isn’t sinking. It’s like I’m afraid acknowledging God’s work in building this boat will cause the boat to fall apart and that’s stupid and doesn’t match anything I see Scripture.

So I’ll shun feelings and superstitions and believe this instead: God has worked in amazing ways in this past year and I can’t wait to see how He challenges us and grows us and glorifies Himself in this Covenant Community in the months and years to come. Please join me today praising God for his grace in our lives and in the life of the church.

Manhattan Pres Game night

MPC Game Night February 28 2014

Let me start by saying one of the many, many great things about Morgan is her love for people. She decorated the chalkboard wall, and when Sadie Piper asked to help, she let her. Really let her.

MPC Game Night February 28 2014

She let SP draw the “night” and all the stars on the right. And she didn’t redo it to match with the rest of her wall that took her forever to do. She let her really help. SP was so proud that she got to be like Morgan. And Morgan didn’t love perfection more than she loved Sadie. I want to be more like Morgan like that.
